Avalon ASIC (Avalon 1)

Canaan's Avalon ASIC shipped in January 2013 and instantly ended the GPU/FPGA era for serious miners. At 66 GH/s it was orders of magnitude faster than any GPU rig — and proved that Bitcoin mining would become a chip-design industry.
